The 5th grade Boography project is full of excitement for the 5th grade class. Not only do students get a chance to research someone famous, they also get to dress in character, prepare a presentation, and create a poster board illustrating what they’ve learned. October 30th is Boography day and a lot of fun. You won’t want to miss it!

For 5th grade Resource and SLC students, the project is just as creative. We have a range of ability-leveled material and biographies for students to choose from and can assist in their “character” selection. A sample speech template will also be provided that can help your student structure their speech. Most of this project will be completed at home (the poster, costume design, and speech practice for instance). But some direction will be provided by Resource and SLC as well. Please let us know if you have any concerns about this project or need further direction or help for your student. We want to make sure that every student feels good about the work they present and enjoys the feeling of accomplishment!

Most teachers have some sort of homework assignment due every day. Resource and SLC students should be doing homework as well, but if your student is overly frustrated with the modified homework being sent home please let us know. Developing good study habits and practicing independently are skills that all students need to master. Also, if your student does not have assigned homework (and you would like some), we can provide that for you.

And finally, one of the most important things your child can do at home is participate in reading activities. Reading ability-leveled material at home, listening to books on tape or CD, practicing flashcards, or having an older child or adult read to the them all count as reading activities. Like any other skill, reading takes practice!

Arcadia’s 3rd Grade Open House was held prior to the start of school, but the 4th and 5th Grade Open House will be Thursday, September 17th.  The 4th grade classes will be open from 5:45 through 6:15 or 6:30. The 5th grade classes will be open from around 6:15 through 7 p.m. While 3rd grade classrooms won’t be open, the Resource and SLC classrooms will be open from 5:45 through 7 p.m. Hope to see you there!

Arcadia Resource staff provides both pull out and in class support services for special education students based upon each individual student’s needs. Arcadia’s Resource Room staff firmly believes that every student counts, that each student is unique, and that all students can learn.
